Description
Comprehensive oral health care is best achieved when a dental clinician has both up-to-date medical and medication history from patients to avoid adverse oral health outcomes. However, patient-reported medical histories can have inaccuracies, leading to a non-standardized protocol for medical consultations with medical providers. In this study, findings indicate the reasons for initiation of medical consultation, types of information requested and returned, and days taken to complete the medical consultation process.
Learning Objective: 1. Understand the medical consultation process and perspectives to improve care contiunity among dental and medical providers.
2. Explain reasons for dental clinician-initiated medical consultations in pursuit of quality patient care.
3. Learn challenges in obtaining patient histories through patient-reported medical histories and medical consultations.
