Description

Standardization of pathology cancer reporting requires structured forms as reporting templates. However, frequent updates of the forms for diverse cancer types have been a major obstacle to keeping the form structures up-to-date. There has been no satisfactory solution for a decade. We introduce a Web-based modular method to overcome this obstacle effectively. It allows Web users to update/generate cancer reporting templates by simple drag-and-drop, and use the resultant forms as templates to file cancer reports.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner should be better able to:
-- Understand that frequent update of cancer reporting standard/requirement is a major obstacle that hinders standardization of cancer reporting in diagnostic pathology. Recognize the challenge to come up with satisfactory solutions.
-- Learn how Web modular method as a simple solution can effectively overcome the obstacle. Understand that the value and importance of a technology are not determined by its sophistication but rather by the magnitude of the problem it can effectively solve.
-- Make attempts to utilize simple emerging information technologies to solve many other similar problems in cancer reporting and diagnostic medicine.
