Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has created an implementation guide developed as part of a pilot to implement 2D barcode scanning in a large healthcare system. The pilot investigated when, why, and how barcode scanning should be implemented to achieve the highest return on investment, and how behavioral strategies can be used to improve consistent adoption over the long-term. This resulted in an implementation guide that is the basis for the poster.

Learning Objective: - Evaluate appropriateness of adopting two-dimensional barcode scanning based on data accuracy and staff satisfaction findings of the CDC pilot, including: how to decide to use 2D scanning, how to plan changes in the workflow, how to train staff, how to assess impact of changes, how to adjust workflow based on assessment, and how to sustain long-term adoption.

- Develop an approach to using multiple behavior change strategies concurrently to improve the adoption of new technologies in the clinical workflow.
