Description

We aimed to look about the association between response duration to ED specialty consultation request and frequency of mEMR use. Specialty consultation is a critical part in emergency department (ED) and delay of consultation might have a significant problem in the ED. Although mobile electronic medical records (mEMR) are being increasingly utilized and are known to improve the work flow of healthcare providers, just few of studies showed the usability and effectiveness in real-life clinical scenarios. We looked the relationship between the frequency of mEMR usage and time interval and our findings suggest that frequent mEMR usage has correlation with response time to ED consultation requests. We analyzed EMR and mEMR data from 2018.05.01 to 2018.12.31. In this study, 277 physicians received consultant from ED and 216 used mEMR. We found that mEMR users respond more quickly to consultation. (coeff: -0.25( -0.37~ -0.17), P-value< 0.001) This study shows the use of mEMR enhance the time efficiency in real clinical circumstances.

Learning Objective: Learn about the possible solutions by using mobile EMR for Emergency Department crowding problem which is caused by delayed consultation response.
