Description

Anticoagulation (AC) is only prescribed to about 50% of eligible atrial fibrillation (AF) patients despite guideline recommendations. To address this issue at the system- and provider-levels, we created a registry to identify AF patients with high stroke risk not on AC using information available in the electronic health record (EHR) and developed a best practice advisory within the EHR to assist providers in prescribing AC to their eligible AF patients or document reasons for withholding.

Learning Objective: Recognize potential of EHR data driven developments to identify AC practice gaps and leverage a best practice advisory to fill the gap and/or document reasons for non-use of AC.
