Description

Access to current literature is essential for Evidence-Based Medicine. Results of a study among 160 practicing doctors and medical students in Pakistan showed that Internet connectivity was available only to 73.7% at work and smart devices to 17.5% . The preferred source of answers for most questions in practice was a senior colleague. PubMed usage was popular (68.7%) among participants. These results should be considered in designing healthcare information tools in resource-poor settings.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner should be able to:
● Learn the information resources available to medical doctors and students in a lower-middle-income country like Pakistan.
● Understand the choice of resources preferred by medical professionals for questions encountered in daily practice.
● Learn the statistics of PubMed usage among practitioners in Pakistan, as well as reasons for not employing it in practice.
● Use the results of this study to design improved information resources for countries with similar economic profiles and technological limitations so as to enhance practice of Evidence-Based Medicine in these regions.
