Description

Childhood obesity and overweight are a major health challenge in the US that could be combatted by maintaining healthy diet and eating home cooked meals. In this user-centered design study, we aim to inform functional requirements, design requirements, and insights regarding the context of use for a Culinary Nutrition Education (CNE) technology that could enhance teens’ cooking literacy and confidence to promote healthy lifestyle self- management.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner should be better able to 1) understand design requirements, functional requirements, and context of use of a tailored health IT focused on improving cooking literacy and confidence to facilitate healthy eating of overweight/obese adolescents, 2) understand the importance of kitchen confidence for combating obesity among teenagers through the lens of Social Cognitive Theory and the Fogg Behavior Model, and 3) learn more about user-centered approach to develop health IT solutions for adolescents.
