Description

This qualitative study analyzes the complex multifaceted nature of determinants of medication adherence in individuals with sickle cell disease. By using the World Health Organization multidimensional adherence model, we show the multi-dimensional nature of medication adherence in this population with significant healthcare disparities. Understanding these determinants in sickle cell disease can provide input to personal and system informatics, and point toward a future where informatics solutions can be created to cross the digital divide.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session the learner should be able to understand the complexity of the determinants of medication adherence in sickle cell disease, and how these factors that can help influence the design of informatics solutions.
