Description
The concept of digital and federated identities for patient electronic health records (EHR) access is not widely used within healthcare. Currently, healthcare provider organizations (HPO) provide patients with EHR access by issuing digital identities and login credentials. However, patients affiliated with multiple HPOs must manage multiple digital identities and credentials. This may impede access and pose a security threat to the HPO and patient. A federated digital identity can address these concerns.
Learning Objective: Understand what a federated digital identity is and how it can help patients access their electronic health records
Learn the requirements for identity proofing and how it may be achieved in healthcare
