Description
Standardized nomenclatures are proposed as means of communicating and exchanging information in a format accessible to all healthcare providers. Secondary data analysis of patient discharge summaries revealed only 23% of terms used by physicians in discharge summaries matched the SNOMED CT Nursing subset, 21% of SNOMED CT nursing terms mapped to NANDA-I. These data suggest that while electronically interoperable, SNOMED CT is needs additional development for interdisciplinary communication.
Learning Objective: The audience should be able to evaluate the interdisciplinary nature of SNOMED CT
