Description

Poor electronic health record (EHR) usability is a core issue when it comes to software in healthcare settings. Developing efficient user friendly EHRs involves clean and minimal interfaces. Our objective is to identify usability problems and the frequency of use in selectable features to aid in the improvement of future nursing order management (OM) design. Eliminating unused functions while improving highly utilized features and problem areas will result in workflow optimization, efficiency, and more effective patient care.

Learning Objective: Our objective is to understand how interface design aspects mediate workflow task performance in nursing order management. Usability problems and selectable interface features were assessed by applying usability heuristics adapted from the Turf Framework to identify potential barriers to system use.
