Description

Provider use of clinical decision support in this large randomized controlled trial varied by patient race. The tool was designed to decrease antibiotic ordering in patients with upper respiratory infection. Providers were more likely to use the tool with Black patients which could exacerbate a current disparity as White race is associated with higher antibiotic prescription rates. Further study is needed to understand this difference and its potential impact on testing and treatment.

Learning Objective: Learn the importance of provider use behaviors around clinical decision support and how this can significantly impact these tools reach and efficacy.
