Description

Health information technology (IT) implementations have a "go live" date when the system is turned on, but transitioning to effective technology use and adoption occurs over an extended time as individuals, teams, and the organization adapt. We conducted a yearlong assessment of the impact of the implementation of a new vendor-based health IT system on workflow, roles, and communication. We report on the final phase of data collection, one year after a “big bang” implementation.

Learning Objective: Understand organizational and individual responses to large-scale health information technology implementation.
