We compared groups of patients that had Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) or Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) records captured in a structured field within an EMR and those with tests extracted from a clinical note. We found that demographic, diagnosis, and utilization profiles differed considerably between these cohorts. Our results highlight the importance of understanding the source of these types of cognitive function testing results for studies leveraging them as a primary feature.
Learning Objective: After reviewing this poster, a reader should be able to: describe observed differences between utilization of patients with cognitive function tests recorded in notes vs structured fields; and understand diagnostic differences between the same cohort.
