Description

Abstract Body: In a career spanning six decades, Donald A.B. Lindberg, MD, Director Emeritus, National Library of Medicine (NLM) and first President of the American Medical Informatics Association, was a major force in the creation and expansion of the multidisciplinary field of biomedical informatics. Beyond his pioneering informatics research and applications and his spectacular expansion of free worldwide access to information, data, research resources, and training from the NLM, Don and his wife Mary had a personal impact on generations of people at all career stages and from all the disciplines that contribute to informatics research and applications. This session will consist of brief accounts of memorable advice, opinions, and encounters with Don by some of those influenced by him. There will be an open-Mic segment.

PLEASE NOTE: The ACMI Committee of Historians Meeting on Monday, 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm, will provide another opportunity for those who are unable to share their remembrances about Don Lindberg in this Sunday ACMI session to speak and celebrate his life. The Committee will also open a discussion of plans for future activities where Don’s friends and colleagues could contribute their unique memories of how Don influenced them and the field more generally.
