Description

Abstract Body: While the Executive Branch has been busy implementing the 21st Century Cures Act of 2016 during the last year, Congress has been relatively quiet on the health informatics policy front. Oversight hearings on health IT interoperability and patient data access have been supplemented by informational sessions on FDA modernization and NIH research funding, but most of the legislative agenda has been driven by public health concerns, like the opioid crisis, health care costs, and pricing transparency. So what will these oversight hearings and information gathering sessions portend for 2020 and beyond?

Attendees will hear from a panel of distinguished Congressional staff who drive the agendas for Committees who have purview over the health informatics policy issues we care about. Staff from the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee will be joined by their jurisdictional counterparts in the House of Representatives to discuss what priorities will take center stage in 2020 and beyond. Attendees will also learn about potential areas where their expert input is needed to advance future policymaking for data-driven care and research.
