Description

Repositioning of 'old' drugs to treat diseases may accelerate drug development by reusing compounds whose safety has been evaluated in clinical trials. In this study, we combined information from genome-wide association studies, gene expression databases, and electronic health record data to identify drugs that could potentially be repositioned to treat hyperlipidemia. We found that lisinopril had an unexpectedly significant clinical effect on lowering low-density lipoprotein plasma levels.

Learning Objective: Learn contemporary approaches to leveraging genome-wide association studies, gene expression databases, and EHR data for drug studies.
