Description

We explore the potential of Electronic Health Records to provide population health knowledge by identifying temporal patterns in visits to the University of Washington Health system by patients needing traumatic injury care. Using a binomial test, we detect diagnosis codes that appear with higher frequencies on selected days. We find that we can classify trauma types as summer-enriched, winter-enriched, or non-seasonal, and can also detect holidays and rare events.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner will understand some of the challenges and opportunities related to the secondary use of EHR data for population health.
