Description

Despite that social media have been increasingly used to identify patients’ vocabulary in general and adverse safety events in specific, Q&A sites are not yet used to understand comorbid diseases and online patient community beyond what is already known in the healthcare setting. This study aims to identify comorbid diseases and their relationship strengths from a community Q&A site by using kidney disease as case of study. In addition, it leverages social network analysis techniques to gain insights into the relationships among comorbid diseases, which complements the existing body of knowledge based on clinical findings.

Learning Objective: Identify comorbid diseases and their relationship strengths from an online Q&A site and explore the possibility to support what we already know from a clinical setting with social media data.
