I am a clinical informatics physician scientist (internal medicine and pediatrics) and board certified in clinical informatics. I serve as the Associate Director of Health and Clinical Informatics at the UNC School of Medicine and as the Lead Informatics Physician for patient engagement. I also am the founding fellowship director for UNC’s Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program.      

My main research focus is centered upon PGHD including PROs and data from wearables and other digital health technologies such as voice-activated assistants (Alexa, etc.) and IoT devices.  My work aims to transform and combine these data with relevant clinical data and use interactive visualizations to present actionable information back to patients and providers for use in self-management and for clinical care. The resulting dashboards and interfaces are embedded within the EHR and patient portal.      

I also have interests in data harmonization and interoperability focused on PROs and device data.  I am passionate about citizen science and patient-powered research efforts and HIT tools to promote and facilitate patient engagement!
