Description

Antibiotic stewardship programs (ASPs) facilitate the appropriate prescribing of antibiotics within clinical care. These programs are recently mandatory in U.S. hospitals, and are upheld to certain standards, like utilizing health data for quality improvement. However, due to the nascence of these regulations, the field has not standardized the adoption of EHR data to inform and validate prescription interventions. We retrospectively analyzed outcomes associated with an implemented intervention to evaluate its effectiveness and inform future interventions.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner should be able to:
- Understand the principles of antibiotic stewardship in healthcare settings
- Learn the importance of empowering antibiotic stewardship programs with electronic health record data analyses and informatics to assess historic and future stewardship interventions
- Realize the challenges of implementing antibiotic stewardship interventions
- Learn the patient and microbiological outcomes of interest for antibiotic stewardship interventions
