Description

A cognitive clinical decision-support tool (CDSS), Watson for Oncology (WFO), was adopted in 3 hospitals, 1 with and 2 without electronic health record (EHR) integration. In a colorectal cancer study, EHR-WFO integration decreased the number of patient attributes requiring manual entry and increased the total number of attributes entered into the system for treatment decision making. Integrating EHRs with a CDSS can save time in data entry and potentially enhance data available for decision making.

Learning Objective: After participating in this session, the learner should be better able to formulate an approach to integration of clinical decision support systems with EHRs that directly impact the comprehensiveness of patient data available for decision-making by clinicians.
