Description

Adoption of Health Information technology tools is often low. Improving the usability of underutilized tools may lead to increased adoption. A 3-tiered approach was employed to identify information targets, search strategies, issues, and design solutions for refining the underutilized Medical Home Portal. Issues identified included: misleading search result labels, main navigation tabs that did not clearly convey contents, scrolling caused navigation tabs to disappear, users did not open nested lists, and links to inactive websites.

Learning Objective: Understand strategies for identifying usability issues and potential solutions in underutilized health information technology tools to support optimization and increased adoption.
