Description

Physician burnout secondary to excess time spent using the EHR is common. In electronic health record system (EHR) optimization, resources are devoted to continued improvement in EHR user competence. Few EHR optimization processes are described in the peer-reviewed literature. We therefore developed an institutional Epic EHR optimization program for efficient EHR use to decrease physician burnout. Themes are reported which will inform future efforts.

Learning Objective: Recognize the potential benefits of electronic health record (EHR) optimization on physician EHR usage and utilize lessons learned to formulate EHR optimization programs at the learner's institution.
