Description
The Clinical Data Repository/Health Data Repository is a health interoperability framework between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. By mapping local drug names to RxNorm, medication profiles of patients registered for care in both Departments can be transmitted in real-time. Terminology errors are partially responsible for incomplete medication profiles to be exchanged. This paper analyzes the causes and rates of medication terminology errors over the calendar year 2018 and suggests ways to resolve errors in a shorter time frame.
Learning Objective: Learn some of the terminology challenges encountered in a semantic interoperability effort and possible solutions to overcome them.
