Description

Guidelines indicate that patients should be tapered from prescription opioids if benefits do not outweigh harms. However, robust data on tapering strategies and their association with health and safety outcomes are lacking. Therefore, we seek to create a cohort of patients with evidence of opioid taper. We will use structured pharmacy data and unstructured narratives to identify patients being tapered to further analyze the impact of opioid tapering on health and safety outcomes.

Learning Objective: Clincal notes are rich of indicators of opioid tapering
Successful use of search queries to identify patients being tapered
