The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) launched its inaugural ACGME-accredited Clinical Informatics Fellowship Program in July 2019, and will be ready to accept candidate fellows for a July 2020 start date. The training program accepts new Fellows per year, with one slot dedicated for physicians with adult specialties, and another slot for those with pediatric specialties. The program is administratively housed in the UAMS Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) and will have two training sites, the UAMS University Hospital and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, for adult and pediatric primary clinical or surgical specialties, respectively.  It’s a two-year Fellowship program that accepts candidates at the PGY 4 level onwards. The Fellows will also receive a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Informatics from the UAMS DBMI. The Fellows will have mentored Research and scholarly activities, as well as operational responsibilities. Each Fellow will undergo mandatory rotations in the 1st year and a research capstone project in year 2. They will also become certified-EMR physician builders by end of year 1. The Fellows are also expected to perform an independent clinical practice on their primary clinical specialty.
