Description

People are increasingly interested in sharing their personal health information in online communities to obtain personalized information and advice. Yet, contextual elements that characterize general consumers’ health information seeking have received comparatively little attention. In this study, we analyzed question posts containing laboratory test results in a social Q&A diabetes community to understand the types of information people shared, for what purpose, and correlations among them.

Learning Objective: After attending this session, the learner will be able to improve their design of context-based and consumer-facing informatics tools to provide more personalized information that better meets patients’ needs.
